I’m sorry I didn’t catch it at the conference, but I think I understood (and agreed with, even before I saw it) your point of view. I do pro bono translations for a handful of animal welfare services and also for the Israel Guide Dog Center for the blind: NGOs close to my heart.
I have gotten a few referrals through them, which made the “investment” worthwhile. However, even without, I think the key is to know for whom. There are really some NGOs with very limited budgets (and not a budget that siphons part to highly paid officers), and I think they deserve my help. I figure that I am donating services instead of the money I would want to donate.

First of all, what an engaging presentation!
